In Kyoto leben, getarnt unter den Menschen, Tanuki und Tengu in einem fragilen Gleichgewicht. Die Domäne der Menschen ist die Stadt, die der Tengu ist der Himmel und die Tanuki bevölkern den Boden. Tanuki Yasaburou Shimogamo ist der dritte Sohn der Shimogamo-Tanuki-Familie. Sein Vater, Souichirou, war das Oberhaupt der Tanuki Gemeinde, hochverehrt auch bei den Tengu. Als dieser eines Tages von Menschen, genauer gesagt von den Mitgliedern des Friday Clubs, als Tanuki-Hotpot aufgegessen wurde, gerät das fragile Gleichgewicht aus den Fugen. Wer aber könnte in seine Fußstapfen treten?
