A few days ago I was wondering how much I could improve upon the existing releases of this show, heres the result.
The japanese blu-ray of Kill la Kill suffers from some serious chroma issues in random scenes.
I went through every single scene and checked whether the ITA or JP blu-ray had better chroma, then used whichever chroma was better for each scene.
After splicing the two sources together, I applied rescaling (1280x720, b=0, c=1), chroma denoising, and debanding.
As this was mostly just a test out of my boredom, I probably won’t do the whole show.

As per my suggestion, the comp looks pretty promising although I would pick like 8/12 scenes from Nanoalchemist and the rest 4 from yours (others are either minorly noticable or my eyes are deceiving me). Overall that was a very good work out there and I appreciate that!
Edit: 6/12th and 9/12 one is a major improvement in your encode. Wonder what caused that in Nanoalchemist one.
Overall I would pick anyone of the 2, both are good ^^

6/12 and 9/12 are like that in the NanoAlchemist encode because those shots were lowpass filtered in JP/US BD. The IT BD that Aergia used does not have this problem.

i tried to watch it a few years ago but the timing in the official subs is some of the worst i’ve ever seen. i don’t remember the subs themselves being particularly bad or anything.

FFF subbed this, I’d assume timing isn’t an issue in theirs. Or is there something wrong with their subs which made you pick the official subs over it?

funny thing is that both Commie and Underwater worked on the show
and FFF did a bd release based on Underwater
