This is a raw makemkv backup/rip of the Sentai Filmworks NA Blu-ray release of Kaiji, The Suffering Pariah Kaiji, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, etc. Seasons 1 and 2. Only Japanese audio, only English subs. This is NOT a digital remaster or rescan. Season 1 looks scuffed as ever, still very DVD resolution. Compression artifacts are better in general than my other copy of kaiji s1, but it seems like there's a noise filter or something over it. IDK. I would not definitively say it's better or worse than the older DVD release. Season 2 looks 1080p native, very nice and sharp. They both have very noticeable interlacing. But don't take my word for it, I don't know what I'm talking about. I just wanted to get this out there ASAP. For the boys. Reup and seed 'till you bleed. Keep information alive.

is this really the first release of these or did people just think that they are so bad that its better to just keep the dvd releases

@valid as far as I'm aware this is the only bluray release of OG Kaiji, and the only release in the US. it came out just last tuesday, i received it yesterday. japan previously had standard dvd for s1 and dvd 720p for s2. i'm seeding as fast as i can. fat 2MiB/s up pipe over here. ¯\_( ͠° ͟ʖ ͠° )_/¯

such a shame they couldn't do s1 justice, looks like until AI upscaling is perfected it's gonna stay as rough as it is.

I think current algorithms could IMPROVE the situation - but they couldn't make it look as good as S2. it would be interesting to see the results if someone trained it explicitly on kaiji S2 and tonegawa's blurays...
