Video Source: 30th Anniversary ITA BDMV
Audio Source: 25th Anniversary US BDMV
Subs: 25th Anniversary US BDMV PGS
Uploader Notes:
Akira Bloat Edition. Encoded this for my personal collection but decided in the end to upload it due to the lack of high quality releases available. 24 black frames (00:00:01.001) were cut at the start of the video in order to sync the video with both the US BDMV subs and audio. Audio is left untouched from the US BDMV. Video has not been denoised or filtered in anyway. The release aims to be a very accurate archival copy of Akira pulling the highest quality sources available into one release.

@Interruptor They're the same as THORA's release if that helps. THORA is just an OCR'd version of the US PGS subs. As far as I know no fansubs for this movie exist and pretty much every release uses THORA's subs which are no different in translation from the Retail PGS subs.
@Interruptor Sure do! I put them in an mks container so just mux them in with mkvtoolnix.
Here's some links:

Backup: https://files.catbox.moe/tb3t1i.mks
I have no clue how good the translation is as I don't speak Italian.
@naiyas No this movie has a non-standard aspect ratio if I crop the black bars (1920x1016) the AR will end up being 240:127. The only solution would be to add 12 to the height to get a standard 1.85:1 AR but at 1920x1038 you would still end up with black bars. The only other option would be cropping animation pixels and considering the primary purpose of this encode is archival I felt as though cropping animation pixels was a complete no-go.
@herkz I don't much see a point in cropping at a non-standard AR. The only real benefit of cropping is being able to panscan on ultrawide displays, such as a 1.85:1, and not have black bars. The problem with a non-standard AR is that no matter what display you use you'll still have black bars if you want the entire frame on screen. So I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with it, it just seems unnecessary.
@herkz I just went off the output of ffmpeg's cropdetect filter.
Edit: Experimented more with cropping a proper crop would be 1920x1032 but this still gives a non-standard aspect ratio of 1.86:1. A crop of 1920x1038 will still leave black bars. So even if I crop at that it still doesn't solve the issue. So even with a panscan on a 1.85:1 monitor you'd still have black bars if you wanted the full frame on screen defeating the whole point of cropping to begin with. Setting a 1.85:1 AR on 1920x1032 would end up cutting off pixels on the top and bottom on a 1.85:1 display. There are also multiple releases that use varying resolutions THORA uses 1888x1016 & kuchikirukia uses a proper 1920x1032 crop but at an improper AR of 1.85:1. Ultimately cropping this source especially is really just going to screw up playback on a 1.85:1 monitor. Seems pretty pointless to crop when no matter what display aspect ratio a person is using they'd still get black bars.
>THORA uses 1888x1016
their encode is from a really old BD i'm guessing
>kuchikirukia uses a proper 1920x1032 crop but at an improper AR of 1.85:1
it's actually very likely the aspect ratio is supposed to be 1.85:1 but the BD master is just slightly off. for comparison, the 4k BD is actually exactly 1.85:1.
the italian translation is very good, which is why I'll watch it with those subs. Thank you a lot :)
source: i speak italian and I know dynit's quality standards are high.
Uploader left out the best track
__Japanese 1988 home video Dolby Surround remix* from Bandai BD__ (*original theatrical mix has never been issued on home video) https://mega.nz/file/D9sG1RZS#I2PnmwqwTVEMZDpHsScyuVL5jPhGPR0B5Erbb6U4kME
Needs a minus delay of -1001ms because uploader removed first 24 frames
I got the IT 30th Anniversary steelbook when it came out. Really nice aside from missing the 1988 Dolby Surround remix. Other BDs were bit-starved because of the shitty high bitrate 5.1 Hypersonic remix. The 5.1 remixes of AKIRA are not good, especially the 2020 remix.
