Perfect time for a re-watch, right? Was doing just that, watching what was supposed to be the best release but I _personally_ didn't like the subtitles, editing wise. Looking for alternatives, I came across Commie's TV release on AB which was dead everywhere else. Grabbed that, re-timed it to SCY's encode and slapped a meme tag over it.
I did modify the subs a bit. Apart from all the re-timing and re-sampling, I fixed a few typos and edited a handful of lines every episode. Removed the TV commercial spacing. Modified the songs a little. Apparently the naming convention switched back to "Titans" for a couple of episodes? Made them consistent. Other than that, styling, typesetting, memes, etc are mostly left as they were. Except for [this](https://files.catbox.moe/s61n98.png) one. I just _had_ to change it to this.
- Video: SCY (v2)
- Audio: SCY (FLAC -> qAAC, JPN only)
- Subtitles: Commie (edited)

If you already have SCY's release, you can get just the fonts and subtitles from [here](https://files.catbox.moe/ej6nks.zip), or [here](https://mega.nz/file/9zJT2AKI#wM98vUaRavgSyA9UFeR6GYnXxu4V8fqlE2P-33r_OSk), or from [this repository](https://github.com/notdedsec/Fansubbing/tree/master/%5Bmemeco%5D%20The%20Eotena%20Onslaught).
Honestly, I had no idea this 'The Eotena Onslaught' was even a thing. Felt like a lost but important part of fansubbing history. Exactly the kind of familiar-yet-different experience I wanted from a re-watch. The difference in terminologies was jarring at first but I got used to after like four episodes. While it's still a bit rough around the edges with the fancy stuff, the translation choices and editing here makes the dialogue flow a _lot_ more naturally - which is what really matters anyway.
Excellent meme! we need something like this for the entire series, I hope SCY would consider using these subs in his final batch release, the terminologies and translations here are much better and sounds more natural compared to the one he used. Thank you so much dedsec! <3
From RoxReaper's pastbin:
> No native speaker would ever produce that title.
_ attack on titan (attack of the titans with bad grammar?)
__ attacks-on titan
___ the titan that keeps on attacking
____ the attack titan (Eren's titan!)
I think the original translator is a genius that went beyond what was allowed in English to preserve the ambiguity in the title.
Except (and I'm concerned by the fact that what I just learned about "declension" came in handy so quickly) it should have been `Attack on Eoten` of course.
@MarioKart7z that's a re-encode of SCY's release so it should work
> that pastebin conversation
it's over seven years old now. they had no way of knowing the title's meaning back then. honest opinion: i don't agree with some of the word choices either, but that is just one small part of the experience. i couldn't care less if they used 'giants' instead. it doesn't change the fact that the editing is top notch.
> they had no way of knowing the title’s meaning back then
Except for the fact that 2 out of the 3 named titans in the season are called <word> no Kyojin. I wasn't following the series at that time but I find it hard to believe that a good translator couldn't catch that.
