Episode 01: The Red Shadow and the Mountain Monkey, Kotaro
[myanimelist]

This is not mine and it’s not new.
It’s kingmenu’s 2015 release. [Or was it by Shockwave2015? edit: link]
I saw that the mediafire link surprisingly still worked, so thought it best to put here for archiving before that inevitably goes down.
And for visibility - I am personally very thankful for this and could have easily overlooked it.

Unfortunately it’s potato resolution, hardsubbed, not the best translation, and only 1 episode.
But entirely watchable and enjoyable to me.

Someone uploaded it to youtube [which is how I came across the release].

Here are some screenshots.

The show looks so cool! Hopefully one day we get a proper release.

I only found it because I was looking for the 1967 tokusatsu show of the same name [which is really well seeded].
It too looks great and is also without subs I think.

I found something cool from the wikipedia page for Akakage re: the tokusatsu show.

Development
This was Toei’s first color tokusatsu superhero show and Japan’s first color live-action ninja TV series.[1] Aokage’s footage from the series was used to create several Watari films with the titles like The Magic Sword of Watari (not to be confused with the unrelated 1966 film Watari, Ninja Boy).

It’s popularity extended beyond Japan in the form of three English dubbed movies - basically edited & compiled episodes & footages of the TV series. They soon became known as the WATARI movies due to the rising popularity of Yoshinobu Kaneko who starred in his own ninja-adventure-vehicle entitled NINJA BOY WATARI. Unimaginatively & consequently, they were named WATARI: NINJASCOPE, WATARI THE CONQUEROR & WATARI & THE FANTASTICKS.

and all three films are on archive.org!

I’m a huge fan of Watari Ninja Boy, and through following the actor is how I learnt of Akakage.
Cool to learn that I’m not the only one.
No wonder I liked this anime so much given its lineage.
