Although billed as a compilation movie, it only sums up the first 20 or so episodes of the TV series. So if you watch it as part of a double feature--as it was released--you will notice a big skip and a lot of missing material. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend watching the 2 together if you've never seen the series before. I suspect Tomino was unhappy with how the first half of the series panned out and the movie was a 2nd attempt to remake it. The first being episode 22 which remade the first 4 or 5 episodes and served as the pivot point for a tonal and story shift in the 2nd half. Your best bet would be to watch A Contact, episodes 23-38, and then Be Invoked. There will be some slight overlap but the 2nd half of Ideon is peak Tomino.
