This is my 10 bit HEVC / x265 reencode of [ShadyCrab's](https://nyaa.si/?f=0&c=0_0&q=ShadyCrab "ShadyCrab's uploads") 56.3 gb release of Shinsekai Yori, with all audio encoded to AC3. Japanese audio and English subtitle track are default. Here are some comparison shots of my encode vs [ShadyCrab's release](https://nyaa.si/view/939089 "ShadyCrab's encode") Obviously there are some reductions in visual quality compared to the original in all my uploads, these screenshots should help you decide whether the reduction in quality is worth my far lower file sizes. The godlike ability to manipulate matter remotely turned many power wielders to violence, inciting a long period of upheaval. Finally, after a chaotic era shaped by the rise and fall of oppressive regimes, the psychic humans were able to achieve a fragile peace by isolating their society, creating a new world bound by complex rules. In the town of Kamisu 66, 12-year-old Saki Watanabe has just awakened to her powers and is relieved to rejoin her friends—the mischievous Satoru Asahina, the shy Mamoru Itou, the cheerful Maria Akizuki, and Shun Aonuma, a mysterious boy whom Saki admires—at Sage Academy, a special school for psychics. However, unease looms as Saki begins to question the fate of those unable to awaken to their powers, and the children begin to get involved with secretive matters such as the rumored Tainted Cats said to abduct children. Shinsekai yori tells the unique coming-of-age story of Saki and her friends as they journey to grow into their roles in the supposed utopia. Accepting these roles, however, might not come easy when faced with the dark and shocking truths of society, and the impending havoc born from the new world. ### File details Video: 1920x1080 24 fps HEVC Main 10 Audio: English; AC3 Stereo ~192 kbit/s Japanese; AC3 Stereo ~192 kbit/s Subtitles: English; ASS subtitles Signs/Song for Dub; ASS subtitles

@TheRatedRab No, sorry, not planning on it. Doing so would involve retiming every episode's audio track in multiple places per episode, which I did with the subtitles and do not want to do again for audio for such a long show.
Why encode the audio to AC3 when qAAC would result in a far better quality/size ratio?
Amazing work again, please keep on going!

@Scyrous because that's what I have been using since Handbrake's AAC has been broken. I've been too busy to experiment with encoding audio separately with different tools and do that for my releases since I got back. Also, mad props to the work you've done on releases like AoT! I'm not aiming for anything like that with my releases, I'm just encoding shows I can't find (what I think are) good size/quality releases of and making them for myself. Other than shows which have been requested, I'm uploading what I've done for myself, so it's mostly my own standards I wish to meet. Using QAAC *would* have better results, but it's a question of my time/interest in doing it or not, more than any technical reason.

Another thing is, I've found a comfortable quality position with 192kbits on AC3. If I transition to aac, should I push bitrate down to 128, or stay at 192 for "improved" quality? If I can get a positive answer to this, I'll use AAC for future releases.
Thanks a lot for this one. By the way [Reaktor] will you also encode Wolf Children (2012) and The Boy and the Beast (2015) in the future? these are some good sourcesWolf Children (2012) https://nyaa.si/view/943460 The Boy and the Beast (2015) https://nyaa.si/view/821159

@cazzate yeah I'll do both - thanks for the recommendations, I'll use the highest quality I can!
thanks a lot man
@Reaktor - Thanks for the compliment. With qAAC you don't set the bitrate - you set parameters like --quality and --tvbr. Unlike AC3, qAAC is variable. The average bitrate entirely depends on the source and episode. You can use something like --quality 2 and --tvbr 100 to get something that'll resemble the size of your AC3 192kbps encodes. If you want the output to be smaller, simply lower tvbr. The most important thing to understand is that the bits are used in a much more efficient manner since it's all variable, allowing for higher quality audio at a lower size. It's the same principle with video encoding. There is zero point in bloating encodes with a completely constant bitrate of 5 or 10mbps for every single scene, for example. People almost always encode with CRF or 2pass because they understand some scenes require more or less bitrate than others. And thus, the resulting encode is far more quality/size efficient. On an unrelated note, you might want to use lossless PNG images for your screenshots. JPG is compressed and doesn't accurately represent the encodes.

@Scyrous cheers for the advice! I've been experimenting with qAAC a bit over the weekend and found encoding audio files in it seems to add about 500ms delay to the start of the audio, even with -no-delay. Is this something I can rely on being a constant delay regardless of the source, in your experience? In that case I could add -500ms compensation for the delay to my merge script. If not, I'd have to retime audio in each episode - which isn't too bad for shorter shows, but out of the question for longer ones... On the note of JPG vs PNG I'm aware of PNG's lossless nature compared to JPG, and hadn't noticed saving as PNG as a choice when using MPC's "save image" option till now (I have filtering etc. disabled for screenshots, so my MPC settings shouldn't be altering the way my comparisons look in case anyone's worried by that). Future screenshots will be PNG. *I wish that @ actually did something, or that uploaders were notified by new comments on their releases...*
@Reaktor - No problem. I have never heard of qAAC adding such a massive delay... not sure what would be causing it. I’ve never had that problem with my own releases. I use qAAC through eac3to, if that helps. If you can’t figure it out, feel free to contact me on discord (Scyrous#1084) and I will try to help. And yeah, Nyaa could do with some additional features like comment notifications,, a PM system, subscribing to specific uploaders...
Thanks so much Reaktor! Looking forward to your future releases :)

I’ve created a Discord server linked in the “Information” section of the torrent header for requests and discussion. I will be checking for future requests there, as Nyaa’s comments section has no way to notify uploaders of new comments.
OMG the main character Saki who has a weak, obnoxious and a fake personality but portraited as the opposite in this series. Especially with the English voice cast Emily Neves. I can't stand this bitch's voice. She moans thru out the whole 25 episodes. The story is good but this bitch fucked it up with her moaning fake ass voice.
Man your stuff rocks! Beware the following is nerd shit: Just needed Opus! (Sorry I tinkered with it a bit, I removed the dub cuz I don't watch dub and used Opus insead for the AAC. I converted the flac from ShadyCrab’s 56.3 gb release of Shinsekai Yori to Opus and man I have saved about 1.5 gigs! Just saying this from a space savers standpoint! :))
Thank you very much!
