The “Satori generation” Yuri mentions in the episode is a term used to describe the youth of Japan who have, in a way, achieved the Buddhist state of enlightenment, where they are free from material desire. The reason, however, is because items are too expensive and romance isn’t worth the trouble. In Japan, they’ve come to be known as satori sedai—the “enlightened generation.” But another translation is grimmer: “generation resignation,” or those without ideals, ambition or hope.
